Tuk Tuk Tomato Pie Fundraiser

The Basics

In response to national legislation and local need, I’ve mobilized to bring tomato pies (made with local produce from Black Soil) to Lexington for pickup from Tuk Tuk partners. Net proceeds from pie sales will be evenly split between the Kentucky Health Justice Network (KHJN) and Step by Step Lexington (SBSLEX).

I’ll be donating my time and some materials for this, and I am using local produce from Cleav’s Farm via Black Soil. Black Soil has partnered with me for events locally and nationally, and their products are a testament to the agricultural prowess of Kentucky.

Why KHJN ?

The nonprofit supports Kentuckians towards achieving autonomy in their lives and justice for their communities. They advocate, educate, and provide direct services to ensure all Kentucky communities and individuals have power, access, and resources to be healthy and have agency over our lives. Their network ensures access to reproductive and gender affirming healthcare. Given recent events and curtailing of healthcare services, I believe this is an important institution to support all Kentuckians.

Why Step by Step?

Step By Step supports and empowers young single mothers ages 12 to 24 in Lexington, KY. They provide community support, goal setting, mentorship, and more. Step By Step also provides leadership development for moms that have graduated the program through the Echo & Resound Leadership program. These moms learn resume-building skills, such as public speaking, active listening, and group facilitation, equipping and empowering them to lead other moms in the program. Step By Step pays Echo & Resound moms a stipend for their time and hard work, and they plan to take them on a retreat in Spring 2023. Given the current landscape and battleground over healthcare, I feel it is important to support single mothers and their families, especially given current rhetoric.

The proceeds from each Tomato Pie sold will go to help fund Step By Step’s Echo & Resound Leadership Program.

You can also donate directly by texting PIES4SBS to 44-321.

A note

I am a fervent supporter of rights for Kentuckians, and for the support of women and children our governments often leave behind. If you want a pie, and want to donate more to a specific organization, please use the direct donation links so more funding goes directly to the organizations. Every bit helps, and I would love to see some positive impact for the Bluegrass state.

If you disagree with my stance, I guarantee a random contact us email or online harassment will not change it. Save it.
If you want a pie but don’t support what I choose to support, the recipe is here. Knock yourself out.
